Back in the day, my late wife absolutely adored Italian cream cake, and it became a special treat for her Christmas birthday. She and our son used to really enjoy sharing it together. After she passed in 2005, I wanted to bring back some of those good memories for my son's 35th birthday, so I ordered what I hoped would be a nostalgic cake. Unfortunately, the whole thing was a letdown. The cake was loaded with some kind of thick, factory-made pudding that was nothing like the real deal—more like a weird, dense fondant than anything you'd want to eat. I was expecting that classic, airy white icing and smooth, delicious filling, but nope, not even close. Dropped sixty bucks on what turned out to be a sad excuse for a cake. Honestly, it feels like they're just living off their old reputation. You'd probably have better luck baking one at home, even if it flopped, than buying this so-called professional version.
